Tips and Tricks

Quick Start Guide for TerraTrap GS

1. Prepare the Trap Station

  • Rub dirt from squirrel burrows onto the trap to remove human and plastic scents.

  • Ensure all crevices are covered for better blending into the environment.

2. Position the Trap

  • Place the trap near bushes or rocks for natural cover.

  • Avoid open areas where squirrels feel exposed.

3. Create an Entry Trench

  • Dig a shallow trench leading into the trap.

  • Place a few peanuts in the trench to guide squirrels in.

  • Angle the trench slightly downward for a natural burrow effect.

4. Pre-Bait the Trap

  • Use unsalted, roasted peanuts or other dry bait.

  • Load the trap generously to attract multiple squirrels.

  • Let squirrels feed in the trap before setting it.

5. Minimize Trap Movement

  • Keep the trap stationary to build squirrel confidence.

  • Avoid frequent adjustments; leave it in place for at least a week.

6. Bait Squirrel Burrows

  • Drop peanuts into nearby burrows to draw squirrels to the trap.

  • This prevents birds and non-target animals from taking the bait.

7. Monitor and Relocate if Needed

  • Check for signs of squirrel activity after one week.

  • If there’s no activity, move the trap closer to fresh burrow openings.

8. Set the Trap

  • Install the trap onto the guide and secure it to the tunnel base.

  • Add bait to the DIY Lure basket to attract squirrels up into the trap.

9. Handle Captures Promptly

  • Remove squirrels within 24 hours to maintain trap effectiveness.

  • Dispose of them in an open area to attract scavengers.

10. Encourage Scavenger Cleanup

  • Let scavengers remove squirrels to reduce labor.

  • Service the trap monthly—refill bait, replace the CO2 cartridge, and relocate if necessary.

This setup ensures effective and low-maintenance squirrel trapping with the TerraTrap GS!
